I get asked to make/repair a lot of things for people and people seem to think a 3D printer works like the Star Trek replicator in that you just have to vocalise the part you want printing.

Replace <x> with any activity that is usually stopped by not checking cables are plugged in, devices turned on or dust clogging the fans.

I used to handle tech support calls for a local ISP. One call required me to re install Internet Exploder (Lol) So I asked the lady to look on her screen for an icon called Internet Wizard. A long pause ensued. I asked if she found it. In definitive terms she said "Son, I am a good Christian women and I do not mess around with wizards!". I near fell out of my chair.

IMHO - Having persons ask for your advice to then ignore it to purchase something else and then expecting you to fix it for them when it goes wrong.

Back in tech school I was always getting requests to fix someone's TV or stereo equipment just because I was going to tech school.

I was able to fend them off with the complaint of study time, part time job and other excuses.

Some people would still persist.

The life of a tech knowledgeable person is never done.

A lady came to the works to read the electricity meter the other day - when she saw the array of test gear she quickly worked out what I must do and was asking me why her set top box wasn't working. Apparently a lightning strike had taken out her router (replaced by BT) but the set top box still didn't work. I made my excuses and she then moved on to the problems with her PC since her son had upgraded it to Windows 10 - I couldn't fix that either.
