The example above is from a TI TM4C launchpad. It looks like a solid block - like a silicon package. I have a defect launchpad so I scavenge...

RE: Peek inside an SMD Ethernet transformer

Good post Jan.

DAB

RE: Peek inside an SMD Ethernet transformer

I know that's what's inside but it just doesn't seem that something so simple would be capable of handling data at gigabit Ethernet speeds.

RE: Peek inside an SMD Ethernet transformer

[View:/resized-image/__size/200x214/__key/commentfiles/f7d226abd59f475c9d224a79e3f0ec07-c6ed6d6e-125b-4583-a1d0-7d4a9d718677/contentimage_5F00_191954.png:200:214]

I'm curious after reading your post. That must be what is under the Ethernet canister hood of the Pi. I don't have a failed Pi to put under the knife to have a look, so I will just imagine.

The theory of electronic and how things work moves to the back of my thinking for the most part. It is fascinating to actually explore the physical of the electronics that make the theory reality. Great find JC, thanks for sharing. Stuff like this is what made electronics exciting in the first place.

RE: Peek inside an SMD Ethernet transformer

I'm surprised this one wasn't covered in potting compound / resin, as most of them seem to be.

- Gough

RE: Peek inside an SMD Ethernet transformer

It looks Heath Robinson!
