Hi -don't know if this is the place to do this. I am a new member - just getting started in 3D printing, am 81 years young and need all the helpi can get. My name is Howie. will be watching this blog often-hoping to learn all i can about 3D printing.
The first place to start is to identify what you intend to 3D print? You use might help identify which type of printer is best for you.
I have been working with a PrinterBot Jr. and so far I am not very pleased with the results from their off the shelf product.
I found that there are a lot of setting issues that need to be worked out.
So I would highly recommend that you seek out a local support vendor who can demonstrate their printer for you and help you install it with the right settings from day one.
This approach will save you some time and effort in trying to learn all of the details all at once.
Also be aware, most 3D printers can still be cantankerous devices over time. Like all printers, you need to keep them clean and check your connections to keep it working at peak capability.
I hope you find and enjoy the 3D printing experience, you will find some Element 14 members who have a whole lot more experience than I do, so ask questions and consider the answers.
I'm not the one who knows much about 3D printers but there are several that are experts, Doug Wong comes to mind. Anyway I just wanted to say welcome to E-14.
