Letter from the CEO – We’re listening to make business easier for you

September 6, 2013

To our customers and community members,

Over the past several years we have been on a mission to address the things that stand in the way of engineering progress and help you get the job done more easily. We know the hassles you face. Some are a result of the technology revolution – as products and trends change right before our eyes. While others are related to new ways of working, the faster pace that pervades all that we do, and the varied ways in which you’d like to conduct business. Regardless of where the challenges come from, we aim to be your partner of choice, striving to surpass your needs and expectations.

When I accepted the role of CEO in June 2012, after ten years with the company, I vowed to continue this mission with even more vigour. To focus on the things that make customers’ lives easier and to make the Premier Farnell family of companies the market leader in the eyes of its customers first and foremost. As part of that mission, I will also continue our transition to become element14, a process which began in Asia Pacific in 2010. In time, element14 will become the single name for all of our electronics distribution businesses and our industry-leading community – worldwide.

As a loyal customer, you might wonder what this means for you. And for now, it is business as usual. We know that our new name will eventually trigger some changes, and we want to make sure we are prepared to guide the change seamlessly, providing even greater value with minimal disruption.

We are also very focused on the things that must stay the same. For example, you have told us that you value our local service and expertise. So we will continue to serve our engineering, purchasing and maintenance and repair customers’ needs regionally from locations in 35 countries, providing local language, local currency and the local expertise that our teams deliver.

In the meantime, many areas will continue to change for the better. We will continue to invest in these enhancements so that you benefit from greater choice, flexibility, expertise, speed and ease. We invite you to learn about these changes on our element14 Community website at www.element14.com/evolution.

This is an exciting time for us and the engineering world. And we look forward to helping make business easier than ever.

Sincerely,

Laurence Bain

CEO, Premier Farnell

Hi coder27.  You might have already seen this from my other reply, but I just wanted to let you know that our teams are investigating the points you have raised here on the Community. Compliance for all of our products is something we take really seriously.  We appreciate your patience and understanding until we can confirm the outcome of this investigation.  We will give you an update as soon as possible.  Thanks!  Sagar

    Laurence,

I am happy to hear that you are listening to suggestions for how to make business easier.  I am in the US, and here we have laws and regulations prohibiting the import and use of personal computers that are not FCC Class B compliant.  E14's product pages do not show whether the products are Class B compliant, and Newark's "live chat" support representatives don't know either.  They say nobody in the entire department is trained on FCC compliance issues.  The E14 community managers have been kind enough to escalate the issue several times over the last 18 months, but never with any resolution.

I would love to be an element14 customer laurence, but unfortunatly being in the philippines i cant, because your site does not accept credit card payment online. When ever i have enquired as to what i can do, i have been told to order from the singapore site, and just accept the shipping and customs markup. Not a very pleasant way of doing business. Shows a distinct lack of understanding or desire to be a true global business. Instead I now have to order products direct from us or china, because i can use my credit card. Im not prepared to take a day off work to mess around at the bank performing manual account transfers to buy goods on your site, what is this the dark ages?
