Unfortunately the shop was closed, but I decided to go back for a closer look when the shop was open. It looks good enough to be on display in a museum : )

I wonder what the coil on the right side is part of.. maybe for damping? Or some additional experiment, say shorting the inputs, and then moving a magnet, although it seems to be in a physically hard to get to location to do that.

RE: Vintage milliAmmeter - ex school/college lab demonstration

Michael,

A nice looking meter. I have seen one for sale near where I live but I'm pretty sure it was much more than you paid.

A more interesting fact could be that I was brought up in Castle Donington and know the village well. I was living in Castle Donington when I bought my first multimeter from a shop in Long Eaton a few miles away. Another interesting point about Castle Donington is that is near to the point in the UK that is the farthest from the sea (about 70 miles I think). It used to have a very good fish and chip shop as well but I think that has gone now. Ahhhh, the good 'ole days!

Dubbie

RE: Vintage milliAmmeter - ex school/college lab demonstration

It's a lovely looking thing!

RE: Vintage milliAmmeter - ex school/college lab demonstration

Nice collectors item. Probably won't find many large meters like that any more. It would still be a great tool for teaching.

RE: Vintage milliAmmeter - ex school/college lab demonstration

Great find.

You might be able to measure the conductivity of the acid rain in your area, or even tap water.
