An interesting initiative. It is on my bucket list of projects to see how much can be done effectively with a Pi4.

I know it can't run my CAD system, which is Windows only and I suspect heavy processing tasks like video editing are going to work a lot better with a Core i7 or i9 computer, but I think the ability to run dual monitors is a huge step towards making an RPi useful as a general purpose computer.

I'm curious about applications that are supported and performance.

I have been a Linux users in my home since the late 90's. Fedora, CentOS and for the past five years Ubuntu. To integrate with the corporate VPN I had to use a Windows machine. I did get the VPN to work on Linux but I had the advantage of knowing the members of the team that supported the VPN appliance. Without them I would have never succeeded. You have no idea of why the connection fails. Their ability to give me the logs made working the issue possible.

The Pi as a desktop has been suggested in posts but I am sceptical. I will bookmark you blog posts to monitor your progress. Good luck.

I really like my RPi400 other than a somewhat loose microHDMI connection, but I don’t think I could use it exclusively as my only computer. I’ve been using it for RP2040 programming and lately for Arduino and it works great for that. I use it with a portable 15” HD monitor.
