It seems as though analog may be old-fashioned. After all, everything we have and use today is digital. Digital is indeed a subset of analog. I have been an electronics engineer sine 1965 and well remember the days when 10 MHz and above was considered RF and waveguides were used a lot. I do not think that any of my comments contgradict yours and I agree with all you say.

Nick

RE: Is Today's World Analog or Digital?

Hi, Nick!

I understand your concern about the unity of analog and digital design, and mutual influence.

Software design penetrates as analog control functions, which prevents the development of analog functions.

This is the result of weakening of the analog education.

Best regadrs

Viktor Troitskiy

RE: Is Today's World Analog or Digital?

Hi Nick,

You have to first understand that Digital is a subset of Analog.

In my early days as an Electronics Technician, anything above 10 Mhz was considered RF. Digital speeds were measured in microseconds and waveguides were needed for most signals running above UHF.

I have watched the progression to higher speeds as the technology simplified managing signals improved to the point where lower voltages and currents enabled their implementation.

Overall, you are correct, it is easier to send information in digital form than it is to use Analog. Your signal to noise factors are easier to maintain for transmission and error recovery algorithms almost ensure 100% recovery.

Even as we move to higher frequencies, that basic fact remains. Digital is a more controllable subset of the Analog spectrum and since it is simpler to control, it will continue to dominate our lives.

In the end, its just the sensible business decision.

DAB
