I just discovered a question I have.

In the long run this project will be a multi function weather display.

I totally forgot about one thing I ordered.

I got a real time clock module for the project but after thinking about it, the final project will be connect to the network/Internet to get airport METAR data.

The question is, would I be better off to just use the network for time or to use the RTC module?

What takes less code as I am sure by the time iam done with this I will be pushing the memory limits.

Also which option will be easier to integrate?

I assume (possibly wrong) that once you power on an arduino and It gets the time from the net it can keep it till it is turned off. Is that correct? So I will only have to have it get the time once, or is that what you need theRTC module for? To maintain the time?

Hi Andrew,

The first project is always the toughest. Everything is new, you do not fully understand everything you read and you lack the confidence to believe in yourself. Everyone goes throught that phase.

I have never completed a project in which I did not look back and see a dozen things I could have done better. Unfortunately, nearly all of my work projects were technical demonstration projects. We only had to prove that technology supported the idea. The prototype helped to isolate those areas where further technology development was needed.

I for one, never make fun as new people learn. You really have no idea about how much you can do yet. Do not be afraid to fail. If you are not failing, then you are not challenging yourself enough. Failing teaches you ten times more than a quick success.

Engineering and making is a process and a journey. You get better with practice.

So keep on trying. Even the Wright Brothers learned to crash long before they learned to fly.
