At the end I spent only one day in developing the idea.

I still use RPN (since 1972) for my calculations, also with my smartphone and tablet; it is much more efficient than algebraic prefix notation.

I heard the numbers 1, 2, 4 and 8 in tens of different languages. The names of the the bits "ne", "du", "ka" and "to", recall the sounds in many of these languages. The four different vowels used, avoid confusion. The numbers are very easy to pronounce, if you think binary.

You have to think each digit as a four bit binary number wound on itself: one bit per arc segment. If you have many digits you can see these as a single binary number with the bits grouped by four, this makes easy the mental calculations. The numbers are easy to write by hand and can also easily represented with seven-segments displays.

GLC

RE: Dexi Numeral System

Intriguing idea, but not very practical to say some numbers out loud: FFFF comes out as sockittome sockittome sockittome sockittome or whatever those syllables are.

Any particular reason why the arcs are in the order shown? I would have stuck with the standard "All Students Take Calculus" quadrant numbering.

RE: Dexi Numeral System

Reminds me of the original reverse polish calculators.

Yes they were more efficient, but unless you grow up using it, you really do not have a reason to learn it.

DAB

RE: Dexi Numeral System

What makes you think that "numeral systems with base two and multiples of two make the calculations much easier" -for computers yes, for people ????

Your zero symbol - won't do for me, it's already in use so we might end up with "if a == -e" which might mean "if a == -13" or "if a == 013".

Actually I'm happy with "if a == 0xd" - but only because I'm used to it.

MK
