I am using the free version of Eagle but also Kicad daily build which can be painful sometimes. So grass-roots. I've built 2 projects with my raspberry pi so far. Both are modified RC Cars; one uses wifi connected to my home internet. The other makes its own wifi hotspot. I had to figure things out like what mobile power to use, how to gut the RC cars to remove the circuitry and connect their motors to the pi. Also I purchased a motor control board from RyanTek which is purchaseable from adafruit.com. That helped me prototype the motor control software I wrote for the cars. Other things I learned were how to configure the pi upon startup to play an enginre startup noise which required installing the sound drivers---I had to gut an off-the-shelf speaker for that. Not to mention the whole world of soldering and glue-gun usage to get everything to fit in the cars; my Dremmel also came in handy to make modifications to the cars' plastic bodies to make things fit. I then drew an architecture diagram and wrote a native Android app to control the cars, and also wrote an HTML5 app to control it as well. Then once I enabled the IP/Ports through my router, I'm able to control the in-home wifi RC car over the internet anywhere I am. If you're interested I can send you the link to play around with it.

RE: My first PCB (Printed Circuit Board) ...

Good work and well written
