I watched an interview from Banzi at Maker Faire yesterday, announcing a new brand with the name "Genuino". Not so subtle naming and clearly meant to hurt the other party.

Oh well. I'm currently discovering the PSoC ecosystem and finding it intuitive to work with, much like I did with Arduino when I first started. As John mentioned, a 4USD for a PSoC 4 proto kit or 10USD for PSoC 5LP, you can't really go wrong. Even other companies like Sparkfun are jumping on the wagon with their newly launched FreeSoC2.

Since I'm not an Arduino user, I haven't paid any attention to the Arduino Wars. Do they have any real effect on end users?

It's a shame to see a good community go south due to squabbles, but it's pretty common. Fortunately, there are often plenty of alternatives. To me, Arduino products seem overpriced compared to the many other alternative boards such as TI LaunchPads, STM Discovery, Cypress PSoC 4 (some boards as cheap as US$4), Freescale Freedom, NXP mbed and LPCXpresso, and many others. Many support Arduino shields.
