I was planning to enroll for the BeagleBone Black Industrial, but haven't submitted my application.

I had a few reasons to hold off: I'm already enrolled for the programmable load road test; and I may get hold on a non-industrial used BBB.

Here's the outline of the case that I was going to build for the BBB. I usually start from such an outline and replace each sentence with narrative and argumentation before submitting.

Industrial and automotive automation are my pet subjects, and object oriented design.

Working with OS-based embedded design (after 1st try with XPlaind Ultra)

Enabling the industrial interfaces on the Stellaris controller that aren't supported by default (CAN)

Setting up a cross-build environment for unix and one other OS

Object Oriented software design for embedded environments: how to use C++ and design patterns in the embedded world.

Resilience of the board to noisy environments (relais clicking, motors starting)

I am looking forward to interesting blogs in the road test.

I'm preparing an application for the BeagleBone Black Industrial RoadTest.

At the moment, I have no more info than 'I'm interested'. I'll have to work on a decent case.

You mentioned you had a strong interest in vehicle applications - maybe you could explore a parking assist system that gives a green-yellow-red light depending on how close your vehicle is to the garage or other vehicles.

Would it be possible to determine things about a vehicle by its height off the ground?

- perhaps detect if the tires are under inflated ( the vehicle may need to be unloaded and measured at a known fuel level)

- perhaps indicate how much weight is in the vehicle by how much the suspension is compressed

- there are systems being explored that predict the maintenance schedule of vehicles by the roughness of the roads they drive - normally an accelerometer is used, but vehicle vertical (dynamic) motion with respect to the road might be useful as well.

Another interesting use of ultrasonics is to measure wind speed - an anemometer with no moving parts.

I was having a conversation with the Publisher of the mag I do Electronics for, and we were trying to sort out a years worth of articles to cover.

The biggest consideration was practicality, and the item solving some problem.

Water tanks and controlling pumps is another, most solutions are fairly coarse.

You could measure the fluid use by noting how much gets used over a period, and then triggering the top-up.

So your wireless solution has great opportunities for remote monitoring, or monitoring corrosive/toxic fluids.

So perhaps including a practical or solution to an everyday issue, use may result in a higher hit rate.
