These are all good comments! I have several friends who know way more about big tools than I do and I am sure they would be happy to get me up to speed on how to use the tools.

Maybe you should find the people first to match the interests to the tools you need.

Hi!

Maybe good to check existing makerspace websites, some have online lists of what they have.

Maybe even call some to discuss.

It might be good to have tools that individuals might not already own due to cost.

I imagine it is different buying for a makerspace than for oneself, especially if equipment

might be misused. So ease of use, access to training, ease of repair and maintainability,

safety etc all come into play for your decisions.

My personal list which i feel that i should own or access to...

Soldering and rework tools,

Testing tools,

Power source,

All possible dev boards with all possible shields and daughter boards,

BLE, WiFi dev boards and tools, maybe all RF related from short range to long range,

3D printer,

Laser cutter,

Desktop PCB etching for prototype development,

CNC tools,

All possible component stock including passive and active,

All possible MCUs and MPUs,

Quick access to companies for samples with vast network,

... ... ... and much more...

That's the thing, there isn't one nearby and I am kicking around the idea of developing one. I know what I am interested in however I'd like to appeal to a wide enough audience.

There are things like 3d printers at the local library however I have not checked that out.
