Do the containers holding the plants allow water to drain? I would think that drainage might be more important to the drying process than evaporation and transpiration. I have only a layman&#39;s knowledge of botany but based on the extremes in the natural environment I would however guess that plants are adaptive systems and probably do well within a range of conditions.
