On their website Chirp offer a reasonable analogy ( &amp;quot;A Chirp[emoticon:7d377b609b6f44bf9290e3d8a0b9a733] is a sonic barcode&amp;quot;) and then they get carried away with the nonsense and silly claims.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;For example:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;quot;the only technology that can speak to anything from your grandfather&amp;#39;s 1970s record player to the latest iPhone 7, allowing them to talk, interact, share data and create experiences around that communication&amp;quot; - well come on then, just how will it speak to the &amp;quot;grandfather&amp;#39;s 1970s record player&amp;quot; - just silliness !&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The claims for interfaces to &amp;quot;&lt;span class="text-split"&gt;&lt;span class="text-split-word"&gt;&lt;span class="text-split-word-inner"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span class="text-split-word"&gt;&lt;span class="text-split-word-inner"&gt;legacy &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span class="text-split-word"&gt;&lt;span class="text-split-word-inner"&gt;industrial &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span class="text-split-word"&gt;&lt;span class="text-split-word-inner"&gt;equipment&amp;quot; on their website are just as daft.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span class="text-split"&gt;&lt;span class="text-split-word"&gt;&lt;span class="text-split-word-inner"&gt;Data over audio is OLD, very very old technology -&amp;nbsp; I think even the &amp;quot;Man from UNCLE&amp;quot; had one of those acoustic couplers for a classic telephone - that&amp;#39;s what the 300 baud modem standard was about.
