What would it pay?

Would it exclude me from applying for other things on the site? Design competitions, RoadTests, etc...

If I wanted to explore a piece of gear, would you supply the gear?

When I read this post I worried about the need to be only extra technical but I like instead this:

I am also in need of people who can offer examples, case studies, tips on software/coding, etc.

All the stuff I teach in my life was also example-oriented and I think that it is one of the best methods to accomplish technical knowledge to make products presentation very attractive.

I wrote a lot in past, articles and books on theory applied to some specific fields or components but as far as I know I think that there are real engineers here that like [mention:193ac2434c814a24b46635a2210baec1:e9ed411860ed4f2ba0265705b8793d05] can do this kind of job better than me. I think instead to have also a range of options around to implement good experiments and case-studies.

Some of the topics are pretty big - you could write a book. How extensive do you see a typical blog becoming?

For example in industrial automation a small subset would be control systems. I could write an introductory article on control systems and PID loops, but it would be pretty tough to squeeze a decent treatment into a reasonably sized article.
