Arduino Projects book Zoetrope Project 10:

This will be my last project this year,
A: it is getting too hot to sit at a PC or workbench.

2. Other projects and Christmas etc are calling to me.

You will notice a lot of noise from the weight of the Zoetrope causing the brass bearings of the motor to be stresses and protesting.

A comment for the website Gurus.

I have discovered that if I start a post, thyen click Add Comment button, then go back and edit the post I do not get the problem of scrolling to the top of the page.

Arduino Projects book Motorised Pinwheel Project 9:

The noise in this is the "out of centre) wheel.

The video says it all.

As a total aside it is currently just after 3:00 pm here in Dunedin New Zealand and it is currently 30 C indoors. I think we are in for an exceptional summer, Global Warming?

Project 8 Digital Hour Glass;

Works well, except that I had to solder legs onto the Tilt Switch that came in the kit, so that it would plug into the breadboard.
luckily I have the kit needed and know how to solder.. See Photo: You will also note the surgical clamp. For this sort of work they are invaluable.
At one timw I woked as an electrician at a hospital, so was able to get these when they were no longer good for actual surgery. But they can be bought now.

I also altered the time delay to 60 seconds from the 10 minutes in the original programme. So the video would not be too long.

This worked well. You will notice a piece of sellotape to quieten down the Piezo volume..

The reason for this is that my cat kept on leaping ont my work table and trying to push the project board aside, presumable looking for a mouse or some other creature. Interesting.

Project 5: Mood Cue.

This is getting more interesting. Learning to control external devices. such as stepper motors. Handy information.

This an excellent demonstration of the smoothing effects of Electrolytic Capacitors.

If one measured the resistance of a Potentiometer using an old analogue meter (with a needle, non digital)
one would see little variations in the measurement as the wipers crosses the resistive ring especially with a low "Ohms per Volt" one, the lower it gets the less damping of the needle.

You may also notice I have turned the Breadbourd 180 degrees so it has the same orientation as the Projects book.

Arduino Projects book, Project 4 Colour Mixing Lamp:

Th main thing to say about this project is that whilse I could see what it was trying to achieve, the Green segment was drowned out by the other two segments. To the point that I disconnected the Red and Blue to ascertain that the Green was actually working.

The project was much more effective at night, with oly a torch, so this is what I recorded. Unfortunately the brightness of the LED "blew out" the video camera somewhat and this meant that the recording does not really show the results as well as the naked eye can see them. Anyway, a video for what it is worth. I don't know what I am doing wrong, but I am adding titles, description and tags to the videos, but the are getting lost. The page scroling back issue is becoming really annoying, I hope it can be resolved soon guys & girls?

I suspect the cause of the titles not showing correctly was using commas. I have not used them on these videos and they seem to be OK.

PROJECT 2 Spaceship Interface

The question was posed:
How would one get the red LEDs to be blinking when the project starts... Change the "if" statement to switchState being == HIGH should do it.and to add mere switches and LEDs, duplicate the whole thid, using the remaining 7 through 13 and naming them correctly in a repeat of the code

Here are 3 Videos, first on illustrates the circuit and shows how holding the switch down keeps the programme in the "else" loop.

One Comment: I have given each Video a Title, Description and Tags, but the system sometimes seems to "drop" these in the rendering process.

A question for you out there, how long does it normally take for a video that I have posted to render?

I posted one yesterday AM, roughly 24 hours ago and it is still telling me that it is currently encoding. Is this normal?

The file is a 15Mb ,mts video from my HD video camera.

I hope I don't have to do all of the Projects again and record in SD?

I would appreciate some guidance on this please.

Project ONE:

I will add a photo here showing the special desk I have set up to carry out the Arduino Projects.

Followed by Videos of each step.

As a fully qualified and registered electrician with 50 years working experience and a similar time with an interest in electronics the components, circuits etc presented no difficulties for me.

Other than the more complex ICs

So, onto the graphics. The Videos are in ".mts" format, but should play OK.. I will load the first one and see how it goes.

I should also mention that the high school my granddaughter has chosen offers a "Technology" module and I am lead to believe that it is based around the Arduino.

So hopefully she will be coming back to me with question, or more likely telling me how to do things. I hope so anyway.
