I believe one of the best methods of learning is teaching, therefore, I will have a diary of my progress. Hopefully, it will help other community me

RE: My Verilog Diary - 0 : Introduction

Sounds really interesting. I know, from experience, that Verilog/HDL can be a strange subject for programmers.

One book which i found very useful when learning verilog for university was Verilog by example: a concise introduction to FPGA Design by Blaine Readler. It focues on designing digital system, such as memory and other digital design systems by it is a good read and relatively cheap.

RE: My Verilog Diary - 0 : Introduction

That sounds interesting - look forward to reading your diary.

Another good method of learning is by doing, so you'll have that one covered too.

I can't recommend any Verilog books.

The only VHDL book I've got is 'VHDL for Programmable Logic' by Kevin Skahill. It dates from 1996. All the examples use Cypress devices and design tools because he worked for them and wrote the book in company time. It seemed to work ok for me - I didn't have any trouble writing HDL for their devices [large CPLDs with memory blocks] and, later on, the VHDL skills were quite transferable for working with Xilinx FPGAs.

RE: My Verilog Diary - 0 : Introduction

Great idea,

I look forward to your posts.

If you do some searching, you will find a fair number of older HDL and VHDL tutorials and examples. HDL has a very long history.

I remember numerous EE friends of mine who got into HDL and VHDL to design complex circuits, so I know there is a lot of documentation hanging around, you just need to go out and look.

DAB
