Craig,

As far as tools go, a lot depends on what you want to build.

The basics are:

Multi meter

Oscilloscope

Signal Generator

There are some pretty clever (and relatively inexpensive) devices like Diligent Open Scope MZ which for $89.00, provides most of the functionality of the above three devices (and more).

From there, again, it really depends on what you want to do and/or build.

Hi Craig,

It seems we had a discussion this a couple on the forum a couple years ago. It might be helpful to run a search to see if there are any useful tips.
