Thanks for sharing this. This is the wall that I beat my head against last night - and then gave up. Hopefully your direction will help. I did the same with the upgrades - but that was last weekend. Maybe I should also keep a notebook.

Bangs head violently against a brick wall!!!

I've just tried to compile the BasicOTA sketch example from ArduinoOTA, as supplied in the ESP8266 package - it failed to compile with multiple library reference errors.

When I started the IDE this morning, Blink was the default sketch from yesterday - I checked that it compiled OK. I then loaded the BasicOTA sketch and tried the compile, which failed, as above

I closed down the BasicOTA sketch and then tried to compile Blink - it complied OK! I reloaded the BasicOTA sketch and tried a compile - this time it compiled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this a feature................random and inexpilcable crashes of the compiler/loader??

This experience suggests that all my fiddling around with Dallas Temperature and OneWire libraries was probably a red herring!

Sounds like life to me. I am sure it is something we have all done as well, I don't think we really learn until we have experienced these things for ourselves. Unfortunately my memory is poor and so after a few months I do not remember anything about any updates I have done so I often have to 'learn' again. I try to avoid updates whenever possible but there always comes a time when you just have to get on and work through the pain of it.

Sorry to hear about your problems. It is so frustrating when things break for no reason and even more so when they fix themselves with no changes. This is the 'magic' that creeps into the process and generates vast amounts of frustration. Hopefully this is all behind you now and you can make some real progress.
