C1 should be the other side of the resistor R1. As it is the capacitor is directly across the output pin. Not only will this cause the Arduino to exceed the maximum pin current on peaks, but it also increases the cut off frequency as the output pin has an impedance of about 35R. So the filter is not cutting out the high frequencies like it should.

However, great project, thanks for bring it to our attention here. I think the erroneous reference to MIDI came about from the original commercial project. No MIDI here. If you want to explore the opportunists of control by MIDI you would be better off using an Arduino Leonardo or Arduino Micro as these can present themselves as a USB HID MIDI output. Although I suspect that the time taken for the MIDI input will cause additional glitches in the audio output.

I will make one and post the results, along with making the software more efficient, as there is some unnecessary code here. I am going to use a laser cut box, but you can make it by printing out a paper copy and sticking it onto ply wood and then cutting and drilling by hand.

Thanks again for sharing.

RE: Glitch Storm MIDI Synth and applications in Child Psychology

You could also try one of these echo ICs between the audio amp and arduino.

http://www.diyaudiocircuits.com/tutorials/pt2399-digital-delay-analog-echo/

I use the IC directly with an electret microphone, and then the audio amp on the output. I take it take to schools for STEM night presentations.

Kids like to shout into the mike to hear themselves echo in a cave, or in a pretend canyon.........even worse when they figure out that placing the mike near the speaker causes all kinds of wierd sounds from positive feedback. It drives the teachers crazy .... :-)

RE: Glitch Storm MIDI Synth and applications in Child Psychology

Much nicer sounding with new amplifier!

RE: Glitch Storm MIDI Synth and applications in Child Psychology

Hi Razvan,

This looks interesting, is the source code published?
