I've also been doing some decorating today. There were loads of rawlplugs to remove because the previous owner thought it was OK to just wallpaper over them! I found that this hook and claw hammer do the best job for removing rawlplugs. Just screw in the hook (with a slightly undersized screw thread) and use a claw hammer to pull the plug out. I like the pliers for stubborn screws too. Note the grooves at the tip of the jaws which are aligned to make grabbing a screw head and twisting easy.

When it come to filling, this is by far the best filler I've found. You can fill even large deep holes or cracks and it doesn't shrink. I has a nice grainy texture and it sands and paints easily.

I think your count is really 17 because you're still missing the putty knife for the filler compound to fill the hole, the sandpaper and sponge to smooth the filler and the paint brush to hide it all.

For me, it would have been vice grips early, rip off the head, pound it in with the hammer, wind up making a bigger hole and spend three days trying to hide it all with filler compound.

I think the operation might qualify you for a surgeons certificate.

I noticed the picture of the hole is rather small, can you confirm the rest of the wall is intact and you didn't come at the problem from the opposite end and the hole a 12 inches of dry wall is all that remains. Hopefully you didn't have to travel three flights of stairs to the van to get each tools. If yes, then you get two beers instead of just one for a job completed. Got to keep you fluid levels up.

I like jobs like this they present a challenge. I also like to buy new and special tools so a tough job often gives me a pretext to add a new member to my arsenal of tools. I have often used a vise-grip pliers on the outside of tough or stripped screws to turn them.

You can never have too many tools, or use too many tools on a single job. I seem to have been involved in a life time mission to collect as many tools as possible. My mission is based on the simple fact that I tend to have somewhat poor organizational skills and at any given time I may only know the rough location of a fraction of my tools. I have on many occasions bought tools that I own bu can't find at the time that I needed them, or bought because at the time when I was in the store I was unsure if I already owned the tool that I was thinking I might need.

Good on you for having the tools that you needed and getting the job done!
