After looking at the dead laptop, I decided to try to replace the hard drive with a SSD. It took a few YouTube video's and much patience, but after three times taking it apart, it now works with Linux Mint distribution. But I need to recover the missing data from the old hard drive if I can. Looks like another weekend or so for this task.
