In the past, I worked with some fancy (expensive) spectral illuminators used in forensic investigations - I can&amp;#39;t discuss too much more about specific applications in forensics, but as you point out there are many other interesting uses. Maybe a tunable laser would be a good source as LEDs are not quite mono-chromatic. Some tunable lasers can go from 210 nm to 12000 nm (well beyond visible at both ends of the spectrum) RGB LEDs have 3 useful colous - the in-between colours are just perceived by our eyes as being different, although stimulation with mixtures of spetra may also be &amp;quot;illuminating&amp;quot;.
