It's impressive how long they lasted and how little power the tester uses, but most impressive might be the fact that the batteries didn't leak!

I'd pay a lot extra for batteries that don't leak, especially if they are like yours and will last a few decades!

ps, I've also noticed that the "best before" dates on batteries only apply "in storage", and they will leak just like the others long before that date.

Wow! That really is impressive. I remember being part of Radio Shack's "battery club". I guess I was only affording the cheaper batteries because I was always replacing them.

I wish all batteries would perform this well. There are so many forgotten places where batteries hide and unfortunately usually end up in a corroded mess. I've just had to spend a few hours replacing the contact strips and springs in the battery boxes of various LED Christmas lights. The (new at the time) batteries were accidentally left in last Christmas and have leaked badly!

[mention:193ac2434c814a24b46635a2210baec1:e9ed411860ed4f2ba0265705b8793d05] I finally replaced the C cell in my Micronta meter - after around 35 years. The meter only used it for resistance readings but that's still very impressive. They just don't write 'em like that anymore.

That is impressive. I was sat by the computer a week or so ago and could hear this curious ticking sound. Using the power of cross-triangulation - i.e. moving my head around to pick up the direction of the noise - I tracked it down to some shelves and from there to a wireless mouse. Opening it up, the batteries had spewed their guts and at least one of them was venting, hence the ticking noise. That went outside quick-as-you-like!

My colleague recommended me these Energizer Industrial cells, which have a shelf life of 10 years. I bought a few of them to supply power to my IR thermometer ("No lies" IR Thermometer - part I ), which consumes just a few nA (more in Measuring nanoamps ) in sleep state. I will see, how they go, it has been just over a year since I installed them.

Otherwise the troubles with leaking batteries over time are killing me. I have no idea what to do or how to prevent the damage. It happens all over and over again. Different cell types leak even if not completely discharged and still before the marked end of life date.
