[mention:55e535b498a841ed8f2949266bc56dc3:e9ed411860ed4f2ba0265705b8793d05] It wouldn't have surprised me if the figure had been higher than 20%. A lot of engineers by their nature will be introverted and not comfortable with writing and have their thoughts opened up on a world wide public forum.

There are also some highly technical and very well written road test reports, that could also put new applicants off, as they may feel they would be under pressure to match that quality of work. As I think this through, that may be one of the major factors, certainly for the more conscientious members, it may be an issue, and ironically they are the ones you probably want to encourage a higher level of participation from.

There have also been public criticism of some road test reports and that could put some people off from applying. I am not saying that those criticisms were unjustified, but more conscientious contributors could be put off by the thoughts of that happening to their work.

I must have missed all these polls as I wasn't aware that any of these surveys were going on. Of course, this might be a consequence of one of my bosses telling me not to bother undertaking surveys as they were a waste of time. But it looks like some good information has come out of all your work.

About the RoadTests, I did have a go at one but it was pretty difficult and it just felt too much like work as I was having to spend many hours on it just to make a little progress. I'm retired and this did not appeal. Same for the current Picasso Design Challenge, it looks like too much to be an official contestant, which is why I am operating as an independent one. I don't feel the pressure to blog and progress so I can just do what I have the enthusiasm to do.

I think I'll have to look at my tools and do a blog on them as I get very excited about some of them , especially my new super smooth and shiny small spanners.

Hmmm...20% (that high) thought they couldn't write a good enough roadtest review. Something for me to ponder because they shouldn't feel that way.

Excellent work Doug! I could not tell where you were going, but I did sense that you were trying to increase engagement and participation within the community. As others have said, you really do give a lot to this community and we are all better due to your contributions.

Hi Doug,

That is a really useful summary and it shows your total commitment to Element14 Community. I remember many of your discussions and polls but somehow failed to pickup on the theme between them until now. It is interesting to see what the polls revealed and should make useful reading to the element14 team.
