My voice is damaged by a paralyzed vocal cord and so I fight with voice recognition every time I encounter it. I can tell you that there have been vast improvements in recent years to the point where in some instances they are able to properly process the raspy whisper that I produce. Your point about not trusting the technology with important control is a good one. On the other hand a few months ago a young man who was pinned in a car was able to get his phone to respond to voice commands and call for help which was successfully implemented. The failure came as the response to the call was not taken with sufficient credulity.

John

RE: Simple Voice Control of Microcontrollers and Single Board Computers

Interesting project, thanks for taking the time to post.

Kind regards.

RE: Simple Voice Control of Microcontrollers and Single Board Computers

Nice project Frank.

It would be interesting to see just how reliable the voice command success really is. As you point out, there are still problems with getting voice commands properly implemented. So how often is the success verses failure?

DAB

RE: Simple Voice Control of Microcontrollers and Single Board Computers

Hi Frank,

This was a really nice project and demo : )

It's impressive how this is possible when it was so hard to have decent speech recognition and language processing in projects less than a decade ago.

I've not tried the google APIs yet, but I recall the IBM one had a confidence value with each response back, so your code could (say) only take an action if confidence was above 80% etc, i.e. user-determined. It could be that the Adafruit API isn't exposing that maybe.
