That is a wonderful age for learning and getting enthused. Your blog brings back memories of my grandkids before they all became teenagers and lost interest. Were you able to determine where the spring was broken? I can remember working with clock springs and some wind up phonograph springs many years ago and they were always a challenge, Hard and Brittle.
