Hey everyone,

I wanted to share my experience with using OpenShot for video editing on Linux. As someone who's been dabbling in video editing for my YouTube channel, I found OpenShot to be a fantastic tool, especially for beginners.

First off, OpenShot is open-source and completely free, which is a huge plus. You can download it directly from their official website, and it's compatible with most Linux distributions. Installation is straightforward, and you can get it up and running in no time.

Why I Love OpenShot:

User-Friendly Interface: The layout is intuitive with a timeline at the bottom and a preview window on the side. You don't need to be a pro to understand how to navigate through the features.
Drag-and-Drop Simplicity: Adding videos, audio, and images is as simple as dragging and dropping them into the timeline. This makes arranging your clips a breeze.
Great Range of Features: Despite being free, OpenShot offers a lot of features. You can add transitions, effects, and even 3D animations. It supports a wide range of formats, so you're not limited in terms of what you can import and export.
Stable Performance: I've found it to be pretty stable compared to some other free video editors. Crashes are rare, and it handles large projects well.

A Few Tips:

Get Comfortable with the Basics: Spend some time exploring the basic features like cutting, trimming, and adding transitions. There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube that can help you get started.
Save Frequently: Like with any software, make sure to save your project frequently to avoid losing any work.
Use Keyframes for Animations: If you want to get a bit more advanced, learning how to use keyframes can really enhance your videos. OpenShot makes this relatively simple once you get the hang of it.

Cons:

While I really enjoy using OpenShot, it's not without its downsides. Sometimes, rendering can be slow, especially if you're working with high-resolution videos or lots of effects. But considering it's free and open-source, these are minor issues.

In conclusion, if you're looking for a powerful, free video editor for Linux, OpenShot is definitely worth checking out. It's user-friendly enough for beginners but also offers advanced features for those who want to delve deeper into video editing.

It's a good thing I was able to find it. For a long time I was looking for such courses for my brother. Now that he's busy writing his fellowship statement, he doesn't have time for courses. But when he's free, I think he'll be interested.

A very nice experiment. We used to have trouble with selenium rectifiers and selenium surge protectors. One wiff and I would know where to look for the problem.

Nice video.

We used to have them die after a lightning surge on equipment.

One day perfectly fine, then some time later they would catch fire, and boy did they stink.

We took to replacing them at any time we suspected lightning, and later we used the aluminum caps.

RE: PIFace Control & Display Tear Down

Inspired by Problemchild and this topic I disassambled my Piface Control and Display too. I wanted to know if it would be possible to change the LCD. I soldered connector pins on some other LCD's and created a cable with connectors. So my LCD is connected with a cable to the base PCB of the Piface.

Now I have a 40x4 LCD running. (Therefore I needed to modify lcd.py as well.)
