Inspired by Problemchild and this topic I disassambled my Piface Control and Display too. I wanted to know if it would be possible to change the LCD. I soldered connector pins on some other LCD's and created a cable with connectors. So my LCD is connected with a cable to the base PCB of the Piface.

Now I have a 40x4 LCD running. (Therefore I needed to modify lcd.py as well.)

So to be sure, they use pins 2 (5V), 17 (3.3V), 19 (SPI MOSI), 21 (SPI MISO), 23 (SPI SCLK), 25 (Ground). All of these pins should also be re-usable, so no worries about expanding the header. Also used is pin 16 (GPIO 23), which cannot be re-used.

Please correct me if my notes are wrong on the pins used. Great job in tearing it apart and documenting.

Pretty much as I expected, the bonus is that they have not tied r/!w to +v so we can read from the LCD as well as write to it.
