A long time ago (about 1994) when I had multiple minions I got one to make me a similar device: a spring steel prong fixed to a round metal base. About 12 years ago when I left to work on my own one of my last acts was to scrounge some of the spring steel wire with which I made the thing in the picture. (The third hand thingy came from a car boot sale.)

I don't use it so much now for small parts - I often tack one leg down (using the microscope to see what I'm doing) but I still use it for ICs with more than 8 legs.

Well done.

I have heard our boys in the workshop often use 'instant glue' to hold down parts before soldering, but one of these might be better.

You haven't shown the magnifying glass used to see where to solder .... that seems to be the biggest issue now.
