Well done, both of you. I think I see PCB layout somewhere in the near future if you keep this up.

If you replaced the SCR with a socket, you could call it an 'SCR tester' and enter it for DIY Test Equipment. I'm sure Ivan would help you spend the prize if you both won. Just a thought.

Unfortunately the video games are an ever present distraction for all the children who have access to them. Ivan is no exception. Whenever I give him a break he goes into zombie mode with the one of his electronic game devices. When I was his age it was Sci Fi novels and Pin Ball machines that pulled me into a trance and wasted days of my time. The Pin Ball became a non issue as it cost to play it and we were too poor to have money to waste but the SciFi was an addiction. At one point I realized that I had lost touch with the line between real science and the imaginary stuff I was reading in the books. At that point I put away the SciFi novels and started reading text books. Not quite as exciting as performing a sling shot move around a neutron star but so much more rewarding in the long run.

Clearly he enjoys the lessons and time spent with you.

It is a shame nowdays that games and the like are a distraction from the more creative aspects, so hopefully you've saved one from a similar path.

Smart kid! And you've managed to disrupt a multi-billion $$ games industry sufficiently long to teach electronics skills and maintain interest to develop complex circuits at an extremely young age. I'll bet even when he's at school or away, he is mentally dreaming up all sorts of circuits and problem-solving, until he can visit you.

Great lab too, by the way.
