Nice tip.

Like some others, I'd have to wait until the wick gets used up first.

Way back we used to roll the solder around a screwdriver shaft and then dump it into a round container (like the pill containers) with a hole at the end.

Seemed to work well rattling around the toolbox ...

That's an excellent tip. I often take a short length of solder in a tool bag, rather than the whole spool, and then end up losing it : ) So your tip would help!

Incidentally I've always though these solder wick dispensers were a very cool invention to be honest. Kind of like a bobbin with circular seal, hard to describe but easy to see. I wonder who invented it.

This is yet another example of your hard earned knowledge being made available to the members of this forum. I agree with other commenters that you have a good and enjoyable writing style, and I look forward to other articles in your series.

I have in the past blogged on sites for fees (some good, some not so, mostly based on number of views). I have seen a few postings on upwork.com for content writers, looking for technical articles of interest. There are a lot of way to monetize your work other than publishing. On the publishing side, you might to check with other here who have published article and/or books to see how they did it ([mention:4236e66f810f492faa977aafb3ee70a6:e9ed411860ed4f2ba0265705b8793d05] recently mentioned his latest book).

Good luck on however you decide to proceed with this endeavor.

As all the simple ideas it is great! A very nice suggestion. And as I have to wait for a long time before the which finishes in my first of two rolls, Maybe more useful to keep the unwinded which apart in a small box and use the spool immediately. Alternatively, I suppose a good thinking is adding some electronic simple circuit for wind/unwind the soldering filament while using it. One of the most annoying things it to interrupt the soldering, place the iron in the support, unwind a while and go ahead. I should think to it ... But an idea is already coming hahaha

What a great idea - I've lost count of the number of times I've balanced the larger reel of solder near the work piece and accidentally knocked it onto the floor (usually just at some really tricky part or when a component is just at the right temperature). The approach of cutting a 6" length of solder to use also results in a messy bench with other smaller lengths (because I often never find the last piece).

Thanks for posting the article. Personally, I like your writing style, and I don't think you would need to rewrite your content. There are also other ways to try and monetise your effort. One online platform I have seen many people use is Patreon: basically it offers you a place where you can publish your creations, providing you a way to restrict user access to the content, based on a tiered subscription model (i.e. bronze,silver,gold, etc...). This way you could publish some articles and make them accessible to all for free (to attract subscribers), while publishing also other articles which require user to subscribe to your paid tiers. Obviously Patreon takes a cut of the subscription fees you receive, but it also takes care of collecting all the payments on your behalf, and forward it to you, which makes things easier.

Whichever way you decide to go, just please don't leave your great work sitting on your desk, publish it at your own pace: it deserves to be read.

There are many on-line self-publishing sites you could use to publish your work for "free". You already have the material, just sign up, sit back and rake in the royalties...
