That's really cool, John! And useful.

I could see a few ways I could use that around the house here (including a similar door to the garage alarm, heh)

I like seeing your builds, as you always make them look nice using simple and inexpensive enclosures.

I also like that you use things like 555 timer chips. For small projects like this I'm likely to think with a software bias and jump to an ATtiny chip.

That's a very useful project.

Did you need the CMOS version for that long delay or can the original bipolar part manage it?

Good project and provides a gentle reminder.

I used to love building all sorts of things with 555's, and it's quite amazing what you can do.
