Obviously the choice of transformer and transistor have a significant effect on the output and frequency of the circuit. There was one result that while not unexpected seemed worthwhile reporting. If one really wants to suck the batteries to the lowest level it is important to use a Germanium Transistor.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I set up an experiment with a 151-0121 Silicon NPN transistor and the lowest voltage that would start and maintain oscillation in the Joule Thief was 0.603 Volts. The same circuit using a 2N1304 NPN Germanium went down to 0.2 Volts.
