Good post John.

I always used a channel lock pliers. It had a good adjustable gap and a comfortable grip with lots of leverage.

They also made installing new cables with strain relief.

That's is a much more cost effective option than purchasing the bespoke pliers made by the strain relief manufacturers. They looked to work really well in the video.

Coming from a more electrical back ground I have heavier duty long nose pliers that I usually use to remove these, but I do not see a lot of them really. Most of the time I am dealing with compression glands.

I also use vise grips to extract those pesky strain reliefs. Usually takes a few tries as they slip off easily. I guess I don’t do this very often and it never occurred to me to modify the tool (plus I don’t have a grinder - but I do have a Dremel). Great modification.

What a great idea!

I tend to overlook the possibility of modifying an inexpensive tool in that way.
