Although you didn't need it here, I found a material recently, that may interest you. It's possibly well-known, but it was new to me.

It's called 'polydoh mouldable plastic' and will soften in hot water, and can then be formed by hand or tool, into a desired shape. It could he handy for the occasions when a complex bracket or filler shape is needed (provided that area doesn't get so hot that it softens the material again!).

I used it recently to join some trunking (at a friend's site, to try to fix someone else's poor workmanship temporarily).. I drilled holes, pushed the softened material through, and it acted like a plastic rivet. It's quite strong.
