Impressive! Way beyond my level of confidence and experience that I would consider tackling such a project. Good for you. I was surprised at the level of support from the vendor. How much did you need to invest in them in order for them to share?

Great story. It sounds like just putting the scope probe near your signal wire would provide plenty of signal for your scope, or maybe a single loop of wire around the signal wire.

I still fondly remember when most instruments came with a manual that included the full schematic. Sometimes the schematic was actually stuck to the inside of the case. And if they didn't come with a schematic, the manufacturer would supply it on request.

Definitely impressive service from Hantek - thank them and let them know about your blog and the positive reaction of readers.

Not only am I impressed by your fixing this thing (and the novel way you blew it up) but I'm really impressed by Hantek.

I have a LeCroy WaveRunner 610zi, bought from new, 6 years old (cost about 15k). It has an intermittent fault on its power supply.

I get the feeling that this is a known fault (from the reaction of one of their engineers.) They want £2k + £400 shipping to look at it,

they won't supply spare parts, any kind of service manual or any help.

I'll keep it until it doesn't ever work but I replaced it with an R&S scope.

Lecroy should read about Amy at Hantek and hang their heads in shame !

It's cheered me up about my scope to learn that other suppliers do better.

An excellent white up of your repair. I was genuinely caught up in the story like a good movie. We start with our protagonist bravely helping others (repairing a cavitron) before going into a dark cellar. I could feel myself wanting to shout "not the primary. not the primary! use the secondary winding". Actually, scratch that theory. You must be the hapless partying teenager who almost gets eaten by the monster! Amy Cai is the hero who comes along to save the day.

Seriously though, I'm glad you got it fixed. And that sort of service from Hantek is great. It's definitely elevated them in my mind from a non-name Chinese brand to a company who you can trust to stand by their product.
