It's a low melting point plastic supplied as little spheres. You put it in hot water and it goes clear and moldable. I've used it to make quick covers for pin headers....

RE: In Praise of Polydoh

Mm, we had a box of this at the hackspace and I totally overlooked it - nice application

RE: In Praise of Polydoh

Great stuff. I’ll have to try it.

That's a neat trick, to use it as a parts clamp. I've often had this problem with cylindrical objects, but didn't think of using the Polymorph for that.
It saved me a washing machine callout (couple hundred £?) because the filter plug was too tight to be unscrewed without breaking it (Bosch washing machine - great apart from that flaw!) so I used the Polymorph to make a perfectly-shaped bung with a metal rod as a T-bar.

I regularly use it for making plastic ends for connectors too. The beads can be heated with a hot air tool, which saves time having to boil water, and then if I'm too slow to shape it properly, I'll give it another blast with the hot air, and then push it all into placeHow do you use the test gauge to find the centre if you don't mind me asking? Is the lever angled enough that you can spin it by hand to see if the value changes as it rotates around the inner rim?

I have a very low-cost gauge with a manual dial, and have not been able to come up with a good way to find the centre, so usually I'll try to do anything to not have to remove the workpiece from the table. But sometimes I have to remove and re-clamp : ( and then do awkward stuff like find the straight edge of the piece and then re-measure from there. Or, (very bad method), replace with a milling bit of the same diameter, and gently try to plunge it back in the hole. Terrible way, but usually I'm only working with plastic or aluminium.

RE: In Praise of Polydoh

Excellent job of fixing the bath taps! This stuff looks very useful.

RE: In Praise of Polydoh

Great tip and fix
