For future projects: The bootloader that&#39;s responsible for loading the program into flash lives at the end of memory, so you can use a real compiler (<em>avr-gcc</em> with <em>avr-libc</em>) or assembler (<a class="jive-link-external-small" href="https://github.com/Ro5bert/avra" rel="nofollow ugc noopener" target="_blank">AVRA</a>) with those boards too. <em>avrdude</em> has an arduino programmer type that&#39;s used for programming the boards by the Arduino IDE.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>If you add yourself to the <em>dialout</em> group you should be able to run the Arduino IDE as a normal user. You can double check if that&#39;s the right group with <em>ls -l /dev/ttyACM*</em></p><img src="https://community.element14.com/aggbug?PostID=10242&AppID=300&AppType=Weblog&ContentType=0" width="1" height="1">
