He rushed through the description a bit, but basically he was describing an AC-DC converter (i.e. &lt;a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://www.ti.com/solution/power_supply_ac_dc_isolated_w_pfc_greaterthan_90w" rel="nofollow ugc noopener" target="_blank"&gt;something like this block diagram&lt;/a&gt;), not a linear supply.
