I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to add 2 points.

1) The are still selling these kits, so "Boo Sphero" too. I saw one of these things still going for $100 on Walmart.com. $100 for a toy that won't work out of the box.

2) Even if these were a case of "Boo Disney", Sphero also killed the littlebits cloud kit. A cool little piece of tech to connect littlebits to IFTTT as a way to develop IoT devices. Sphero bought the tech and killed it. No matter how I look at it, I still arrive at "Boo Sphero".

I think this is terrible. Launched with lots of hype about education etc etc and then just dumped - and so un-necessary - they could easily have released the app code and documentation for the kit now they don't want to make it any more.

Why not try contacting Disney, LucasFilms and Ayah Bdeir ?

How did you come up with the idea for this product?

It's the result of months of brainstorming with Disney and Lucasfilm. Our mutual goal was to get all kids, especially girls, involved in STEM/STEAM. Everyone loves Star Wars - it was a no-brainer.

I ran into a similar problem with a camera kit a friend gave me.

I look at it as an opportunity to reuse the parts for something else. In my case, I have a full two axis panning system for the camera, so I am thinking of putting the hardware and connect it to an RPi.

Time will tell if I can make this work.

That really is a disappointment. Hopefully you can get it working as it looks like a neat kit.
