The mbed environment looks great its probably one of the easiest boards to develop on, given that it's all online (I just registered). The online dev environment even has built-in version control. I was wondering how the web environment could write to the board, but your explanation (download the compiled output and drag to the USB drive that the board looks like) makes sense. It's extremely low cost but is very powerful it seems. It could probably be possible to use the FRDM board with some wires as the programmer portion (i.e. the FRDM board could serve as just a programmer too - i.e. using the OpenSDA functionality on the board), for an off-board device too.

[View:/resized-image/__size/548x338/__key/commentfiles/f7d226abd59f475c9d224a79e3f0ec07-f4390941-79d9-46ac-8e36-e8b86e0870b9/contentimage_5F00_175447.jpg:548:338]
