You are one of, if not the most helpful person online in regard to questions about Eagle. Thank you again for all the help that you have given me over the past three years or so

I wish I had a room big enough for multiple projects. When I start a new project, I get a big box and fill it with some half-done-might-get-back-to-it-someday parts and take it to the "storage" room (my son's old bedroom) or the basement. Then I have some empty desk space to work on.

I bought a Rigol scope last year - I would recommend them if you're looking for something inexpensive ($329 for base 50MHz model).

BTW...

While in Spain I am organising to have a decent working developing and prototyping lab, from 3D printing to soldering station up to software development, here in the Netherlands I rent a romm"all in one incluside". Great setup and some great instrumentation. I find one of the most useful devices is my steroscopic microscope - mine is suspended from my shelf to leave more workspace below.

I've gone to all LED lighting which is quite directional (not necessarily a good thing) but it takes some planning (and mounting apparatus) to get enough light on the workspace without the light sources shining directly in your eyes.

That is a decent collection of equipment.

I need to have some additional lighting

I see you have added lighting under the top shelf which seems to be bright enough, but you need to replicate the same light levels on the desk.

I still prefer focused lighting, and having seen some of the newer LED lamps, it makes sense to remove the heat aspect but keep the white light.

The only issue I have found is that most are too wide to be useful over benches, given that they start from near the ceiling and are usually 60 degs beamwidth.

You may get away with adding LED strip lighting along the front edge of the top shelf, with a suitable shield so it only shines downwards.

It's worth experimenting with ...

Hi Rachel, really a nice organisation. Next months I am finishing to move in a new home where a room will be setup as prototyping lab. Some ideas I see there sounds good suggestions.

Hi Rachael,

Nice lab!! I too have a similar monitor bracket, it is so nice to be able to save space on a desk.

I've been busy helping with assembling a small lab recently, but it is really lean. Desks, chairs, etc were from the local library which was closing, we made a

small donation.

For lighting, we used cp-lighting for general ambient LED lighting (i.e. Edison fit), and also TLC for LED strip-lights which can hang from chain or be bolted on the ceiling, depending

on the type of ceiling.. They put out a lot of light above the desks. Also, like your lab, we have light walls for lots of reflected light.

I also have some Cree lamps from Farnell, which I have yet to fit. If you have UK bayonet fitting, then I'd recommend Philips Dimmable Master LED 18w version, which is

about the closest I've seen to a real tungsten lamp in a normal lamp size, and are extremely bright. I now prefer the light from them than a real 100W tungsten.

This is a great looking shop. A while back many of the guys posted pictures of our shops and shared ideas. I went back and looked at it but it was very out of date at least in my instance. What are the blue mats that you are using on your benches?
