Disable down votes on comments and forum replies?

On every comment and forum post there is a voting feature available

If there is no valid use case for a down-vote, perhaps it should be disabled and/or removed?

Ps. Can we get points on those votes too (obviously greater than 0 :) ) On Stack exchange it costs you points to down-vote...

    Hi ,

    The Community platform we're using, Verint, has functionality which highlights the "best" responses at the top of a comment thread on content, or at the top of a forum thread.

    For this to work, it relies on the upvote and downvote functionality of the comment.

    At its basics, the voting of a comment should be related to its relevancy in the thread it is in. While it's understood that some people may also use it to reflect sentiment, we would recommend and expect that the use of it is in line with the Participation Guidelines and Code of Conduct. It is similar to Reddit.

    We have points associated with liking content, and rating content (where that's enabled, but mainly, it isn't enabled).

    Changing this functionality is not simple, there are no easy tools to mass enable/disable this functionality across the site, and as these 'widgets' are core components out of the box with Verint, the development team has resistance to customising them because that has negative implications when upgrading the website. We may be able to mask some functionality with CSS edits JavaScript but that can have implications for performance and functionality.

    Understood. Thanks for taking the time to respond. I rarely have down-voted. In one instance on the basis of quality and relevance I down-voted, perhaps I was incorrect. It doesn't really matter as others can always up-vote to say a reply/comment is an accurate relevant answer. 

    So the vote arrow shouldn't be interpreted as a like/dislike button Slight smile but a ranking tool to push good answers to the top!

    Indeed, it doesn't take much for it to be counter-acted, and if there's genuinely a problem with the comment then it can be reported as spam/abusive.

    I'd say that this makes it the most valuable, yes. You can also see this in Verint where an answer is marked as correct, it also receives an upvote.

    We have had members abuse it as a like/dislike button, and their profiles were reported as abusive, after investigation it was evident they were causing grievance so we set their account to be moderated and reached out to them directly to discuss it.
