Looks like a very useful purpose for the Arduino.

Not sure I'd wholly rely on a micro without adding a brown-out detector and some form of override/alarm system.

I've been tempted to replace the controllers at the skifield (which use a two controller and PWM to keep the relay ON), but I need to add an external brown-out detector.

The UpcycleIt challenge used Node-Red for control and I wonder if this isn't a good upgrade to give wireless connectivity to your monitoring.

Have you considered running the system from 12v?, which would give you the UPS functionality you need but removes all the extras that you don't.

Thanks for the great explanation of your project. I really enjoyed how you personalized it by introducing us to Bernie the Crestie. I suspect she will be the only one in the world to be enjoying the benefits of home automation.
