My Arduino Starter Kit Shopping List

Summary

I'm hoping to pick my starter kit pieces by hand to help me learn what each of the individual components are good for.

I'll be looking learn a lot from Robert Peter Oakes as I go! image. Maybe you want to add a few notes so that I can satisfy the "Collaborate on a document" task in my getting started guide?

  • I am considering buy a starter kit because I don't many electrical parts at home
    • $90 Deluxe Starter
      • $52 Economical Starter
        • Considered this but it doesn't come with jumper cables. I'll have to do a more in-depth comparison between this and the deluxe kit.
        • There is also another very complete Starter Kit ($117) that even has an LCD but I'm not sure if I want to be buying the most expensive kit.
      • Mini Breadboards
        • Are these considered useful? I definitely like the idea of making a modular assembly of my parts for ease or organizing.
    • Sensors
      • Sensor Starter Kit (37 pieces)
        • Heavily considering this kit so that I can get a whole pile of sensors to learn from!
      • Sound Impact Sensor - Sound Impact Sensor | 29132 | Parallax Inc
      • Pulse Sensor - PulseSensor - Pulse Sensor Amped!
      • Temperature Sensor - DHT11 Digital Temperature Humidity Sensor Module

    • Motors
      • No idea where to start here. Advice appreciated!
      • I will just learn from the two in my starter kit if I end up buying a starter kit

      Hi!

From the above list, there are a few threads of engineering you'll encounter down the Arduino and sensor path, e.g. software, digital electronics and analog electronics.

You may want a box of resistors, capacitors and a few transistors to play with, if any of these sensors are analog, or if you wish to drive motors,

      and also a low-cost multimeter.

This kit is quite nice because the book with it is great for an absolute beginner (but you may be beyond that stage if you've already done some programming),

and Robert Peter Oakes has an awesome Arduino series which will help loads.

      Thanks shabaz for the advice!
I definitely will look into kits for the comprehensive selection of hardware that they will offer. My programming experience is more in areas of statistical analysis (Excel, MatLab) so I will definitely benefit from the beginner kit image
