Polls can be set to run for a certain time like 2-4 weeks. But default is forever and most of the time become meaningless since the author long ago left the board. The the poll was a place to collect points. One day I found a new person with 4900 points and was curious how. That was he voted on every open poll which was not justified. As you know a limited number of points can be earned every day.
