Ubuntu 14.04.3 Core Hanging on boot

I am trying to boot Ubuntu 14.04.3 Core on my Zedboard. I am using an unmodified FSBL generated in Vivado, and have built u-boot and the kernel from the Xilinx repositories.

It appears that my kernel to OS handoff is completed successfully, but the Ubuntu boot hangs at "Stopping System V runlevel compatibility" or "Stopping save kernel messages". I have read online that these issues are often caused by issues with the display manager, but I have no display!

Has anyone experienced these issues, or have any experience booting vanilla Ubuntu Core 14.04 on the Zedboard?

Hello Matthew,

We have not updated our Ubuntu based reference designs to 14.04 yet, so I do not have a direct answer for you. I did find this response on the Analog Devices Engineer Zone forum regarding their Zynq Ubuntu port that might be helpful:

Yes, everything I've read seems to indicate that it's caused by the display program. I solved the issue by just switching over to Linaro 14.10, which is the most recent version that still used Ubuntu 14.04 LTS as a base.
