What is the best platform for binocular vision system

Former Member

Greetings to All,

I am a novice on this forum.  I've been working on a self-converging saccade-capable binocular vision system, here is a link to an old video -  http://neuronix.net/id15.html .  This is a slow moving hobby project.

At this point I need to choose a Zed platform that in addition to be able to accept two video streams would have enough I/O to run at least eight DC motors.  I can't rely on standard vision processing algorithms and most of vision work would have to be done in FPGA fabric.

I would greatly appreciate suggestions.

Thanks

For video designs, I would recommend the following kits:

    - MicroZed Embedded Vision Kit

    - PicoZed Embedded Vision Kit

However, the above kits can only accomodate one camera (PYTHON-1300-C camera module).

You may want to investigate the use of the MicroZed IO Carrier Card, which has a lot of I/O available with its PMOD connectors.

One of the community members posted a project describing how to connect a camera module to two PMOD connectors, that you could refer to to connect two cameras to your MicroZed IO Carrier Card :

    Regards,

    Mario.

My message became truncated - sorry

    Thank you Mario,
    The link is very helpful!
I have actually built an Aptina MT9V032 based camera and should probably consider designing and FMC-based board to integrate two of them. Do you think that combination of AES-Z7PZ-7Z030-SOM-G, and AES-PZCC-FMC-V2-G is and appropriate option for this project?
I am using Vivado 2016.1 webpack, but somewhat concerned about cost of IP.  Can you give a rough estimate on what I should be expecting cost-wise?
    Thanks,
    Vladimir.

    Hello Neuronix,

Please post your question about IP over at the Xilinx forum since it is a Xilinx IP related question. https://forums.xilinx.com/

As for your hardware choice. The only thing I would be concerened about is not having enough I/O, and the fact that it only offers the ability to attach one FMC camera module. As I do not know your requirements I can not offer an exact solution.  So please take those into consideration before making your decision

As for your current setup using Vivado 2016.1 Webpack. The webpack version will work for any of the devices stated above. It works for XC7z7007S - XC7Z7030 devices. https://www.xilinx.com/products/design-tools/vivado/vivado-webpack.html
